Camino: Day 37

Day 37 was a day of odd familiarity. In dragon boating we do something called a "huli drill", where we intentionally flip the boat over so we can practice bailing it out and climbing back into the boat. The first 30 minutes of today felt a lot like the first 30 seconds of a huli drill. My shoes filled with water almost instantly and I spent the remainder of the day basically swimming the Camino. The terrain could roughly be described as "hilly streams".

I wound up walking the whole 33km without stopping, because there was no place to really stop, and not really much point. My shoes were completely soaked, so even if I stopped and changed socks, they'd instantly be drenched again. So I figured the best course of action would be to press on and get checked in for the night so I could get the wet shoes off my feet.

This means I carried around all the food for lunch all day and didn't eat it. And once I got in for the night I really didn't feel like making anything, especially when the pilgrims menu at my albergue had soup as a first course.

The albergue also had a dryer, which I got to use, but my stuff just wound up slightly less damp by the time the dryer finished.

Everything got at least a little wet, even stuff I put into my bag with the rain cover on. This includes my passport and my "pilgrim's credentials". Nothing was critically damaged, but it's still quite frustrating.

I'm very glad to only have one day left, because two days is about all I'd want to do with wet feet.
