PreCamino: Getting There Day 1

I'm writing this while waiting for my 4:30 flight out of Seattle. The Iceland gate only has power outlets at "standing" stations, so I am currently hanging out at a Beijing gate where they're nice enough to let you sit while charging your phone.

So far I feel pretty good about having brought everything I need, though I do have some regrets about not getting in "backpacking shape" before doing this. I have only used this pack for short trips to the store, I'm sure this journey will reveal any shortcomings in my own fitness level, as well as the comfort of this pack.

I am told that bringing too many items is a fairly unavoidable aspect of the Camino, and that people will shed the nonessentials along the way. Time will tell what unnecessary burdens I have placed upon myself.

I'm about to get on a plane now, for an 8 hour flight to Iceland, a 1 hour layover, and then a 4 hour flight to Paris, where I'll be picked up by a Frenchman holding a sign with my name on it.

Buen Camino!
