PostCamino: Getting Back Day 5

Today was a day of incremental progress. I'm a little bit closer to home, at least in terms of my itinerary. I suspect it was something of a lateral move from a distance standpoint... Today I've arrived in Iceland!

While flying through Iceland on my way to France I was amazed at the landscape, which has been described as "lunar" and rightfully so! Well I heard from an Icelandic woman on the Camino about a week earlier that it had snowed in Iceland, and so it had. The landscape is still rocky and somewhat alien looking, but now it is covered in white. I landed at Keflavik airport and immediately went to the Blue Lagoon resort, because I want to swim in the hotspring water!

It really was incredibly blue (and cloudy) and very warm and relaxing! There were currents of warm water, and the steam created a sort of fog, so you could swim out and find thermal vents and feel sort of isolated. It was pretty great. I bought a deluxe package which came with drink tokens, a facial scrub, and a meal at the spa restaurant (which apparently has the best chef in Iceland).

The beer was good, the facial scrub was good

but the meal was unfortunate... the food was delicious, unfortunately the "included meal" with my package wasn't actually a meal, it was a specific amount of credit at the restaurant. The amount wound up being not enough to buy any of the meals on the menu, in fact, I wound up ordering two appetizers because it was the cheapest meal I could manage, and I still wound up having to pay them extra money. It's unfortunate because it put a negative mark on the whole experience. They really need to at least have an "economy meal" or "package special" that costs the same amount that they give you credit for, if I buy a package that "includes a meal", I should be able to get a meal with it!

On my way to my AirBnB I saw a sign advertising the Icelandic Penis Museum

Which I might have to check out... it's apparently the only one of it's kind in the world!

I managed to find my host's home pretty easily this time, and checked into a wonderful basement apartment (heated by natural thermal vents running through radiators!)

Tomorrow morning I get to go snorkeling in some of the clearest water in the world!
